    Quick post...gotta work!

Show on Saturday went well.  We got a free $100 bar tab and were payed $100!  Johnnyork is on the rise!  We messed up our set a little, but we recovered well.  I'm worried b/c we have so many shows coming up, and not much chance to rehearse, so our set is stuck at it's short length.  We need to lengthen it soon.  I've got some tunes I'm working on, and Cnote is too.  Hopefully we can just get solo versions out to each other to learn by ear and easily slide into the mix.

If not, then looks like we're playing greenday and nirvana covers alongside our own material :)

Took rizm to UAG yesterday, then hit up Olive Garden and Best Buy.  Lethal combo.  We sat in Best Buy for an hour playing this 2-player XMEN game on XBox.  They had this crazy delicious setup on a hude widescreen plasma TV (DUDE the GAME was in widescreen!) and wireless controllers....oh man it was sweet.  We rented and watched Private Ryan after, and it looked (and sounded) pretty slick with the newly-improved setup I've now got.

On a sad note, I found out a friend has left Uof I, kinda suddenly, and I'm really sad.  I didn't know they were leaving and didn't get to say goodbye.  I had just started getting to know them, and then <poof>...it makes me shudder to think what will happen when my closer friends leave too.

Oh man...there are some people in my life that, when they go, I don't know what's going to happen.  I don't even want to think about it.

Anyway I could write a whole post about this but I know better.  In any case, my little friend, I hope you're doing ok wherever you've ended up.  I'll miss ya, and all the rock n' roll we never got to bust out

I should probably try to cheer up.  Thinking of people leaving always destroys me.  I've got a whole day's worth of sad and olden-days music queued up.

    Ciao

You ever have one of those situations where, because of temporary schedule-lineups, you end up spending a lot of time with someone for a few days, but, then, once scheduling goes back to normal or gets really hectic, you don't see them at all for awhile?  You get kinda bummed, because you got used to being around that person, and then you start to miss them like you'd miss an old friend.

Over the last few months, a large part of my personal life shut down as I tried to alter my path bit by bit.  I stopped dating (or trying to date ), I stopped going out as much, and, believe it or not, when I do go out, I've at least tried to reduce my amount of 'celebration.'  I've tried to curb my destructive emotions like anger, jealously, anxiety, lust...and it's been a hard ride.  I developed two worlds that started to exist too separately.  The last month or two has been about trying to reconsile that a bit.

At this point it doesn't really matter.  Most of my "crazy" friends are tied down pretty tight or have graduated; virtually no one is single (save me and studly-Sam Skully).  So, it's not like there's much that I've been missing out on.  The times of hard days and wild nights have long since ended - it's a marvel I was able to get everyone over even once a week for the Podcast (which, in my dreams, I still desire to start up again...).

So, when you spend like 4 or 5 days hanging out closely with the kind of friend you thought you'd never have again, someone up for early-night korean, mid-night beers, late-night movie, and late-late-night biscuits, someone who kind of wakes up stuff you thought you'd long given up and lost, then yeah, you miss the hell out of them.  You even start to question some of the things you wanted to change about yourself...but then you quickly retreat and feel guilty for ever considering such a thing.  But, slowly, you creep back out.  And endless cycle of indecision and risk...hugs and cheers.

Anyway, yeah...this post is kinda going nowhere.  I guess I just wanted to put that out there.  You all can throw it back if you don't like it.

    --------

Show tonight in Effingham, 9PM.  We're supposed to check in by 7.  I'll be driving my mom to O'Hare, trying to get her there by 3 and be back on the road again by 3:30.  I doubt I'll make it there by 7, but the rest of the boys should.  I'm a little nervous about my amp...it's tempermental.  I resoldered some of my guitar connections so those are right as rain, but that amp has always been trouble.  If i had a spare hour, I might even consider going out and buying one.  but, I don't have a spare hour.  My best hope is that Meister brings his clean Vox, and the diamond (lil smokie) has his red distortion petal and I can make do with that.  I definitely need to get a new amp.

Oh, by the way, we have another show, Feb 11, in Momexico!  At the River Bar or some junky place like that, where Meister and I saw 10-min-vsion et all a few weeks ago.

Willis, sorry for missing your party tonight.  I'll dedicate a song to you.

    I am also unoriginal.

Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and a freaking sesame seed bun.  WHERE-T-F are my Sesame Seeds?!  I can't eat this!  It's an abomination...

Heh I'm feeling more and more like a diva every day.  I gotta buy a nice feather boa and some strawberry bubblebath.

work sucks.  but that's SOP.  My mom got in late last night.  We stayed up watching Firefly.  Going out to eat tonight, maybe Indian buffet, then probably staying in and hanging out.  Driving to Chicago tomorrow to teach, then back by 6 for a UAG seminar, then more hanging out w/ my mom.  Saturday, driving up to O'Hare to drop my mom off, then all the way down to Effingham for our show.  Phew.

Packed times.  I could use a vacation.

MTV2 sent us the following email:

    Hey Guys,

My name is Teddie and I work at MTV2. We have a feature ! called the local concert calendar. Basically, between shows and at commercials, we list what concerts (artist, venue and date) will be coming to different local areas during the next few weeks. Your band fits the MTV2 sound and your show on Feb. 4th in Urbana, IL will be placed on the concert calendar before the date of the show. Also, if you could send me a list of upcoming tour dates, that'd be awesome. I could see if you fit into other markets and I could throw you up on the calendar again. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at  *********  (Tues, Thurs of Fri between 11am - 5:30 pm eastern time), or send me a message on mysapce.

    Pretty cool, huh :)

    Aiya.  Can't believe I'm done.

    That's right, I said it...aiya. haha.

Went to arirang w/ riz, bumped into jbomb and BC et all.  Small world after all.

Went ball-shopping, but not for me.

Then trolled through dt champaign w/ some boys and girls.  Fun times.  skipped the stack - i'm pretty much growing one within my own belly.

bonus: I don't think i'm allergic to cats anymore.  Watched Sex and the City for the first time in about 5 years.  Used to watch with friends back at md - cathchow and cc.  watched a classic.

    yeah we're all freaks.

UAG was great today...gonna get a copy for a helpful friend of mine.

    Hah, it never gets old.

Been working on the Prelim otherwise.  my friend Ruth dropped by with some food!  lots of garam masala.  booya.  I also ate a hotdog and some of the bread I made yesterday.

LZ's thing was fun last night.  I was kinda late b/c

    1) she purposely misled me about the time to show up
    2) I was desparately trying to get the 4th (of 6) project written into my presentation before leaving.

So, speaking of that, it's still not done, but just about.  I now need to practice some more and look up the recent literature from my committee members.

I ordered an Amazon Visa card today so I could get $30 off of LOR:Complete Extended Trilogy.  So, with free Super Saver shipping and the discount, the whole thing was only $29!  I'm totally psyched...I've been all kinds of LOR-craving these days.

There was a thing at the Hub tonight which I can currently missing b/c of this infernal water-day-prelim.  hrumph.  I was hoping to go, and bring deviled eggs.  I've been a really crappy friend to UAG lately, skipping everything for this thing.  I feel like total ass for that...

I gotta stop putting work first.  Hah...never thought I'd say that before.

My mom is coming into town on Tuesday I think, and hanging out for the week.  I'll drive her to O'Hare on Saturday, and that'll be it - she's off to Alaska for good!  With that, my whole family will be there.  Except me...sad me in my flat, cornfield, pbr-fueled paradise.  Momexico, that is.  Hahaha.

Ok back to work.  Just thought I'd put a real update in here, since I've been very neglectful recently.  I suspect I may have some new visitors, so...hi there :)

Still still chuggin' away on the prelim.  about half done.  but i'm moving faster now, and the second half is easier to make than the first, I think.  Since I've been at home, working, I've also been eating, as i'm so known to do.  But there isn't much in the house, so I've been eating all kinds of random stuff...

Taking a break to hit up LZ's little fete tonight...housewarming, you see.  Early UAG tomorrow, then work work practice practice all day.

Took a short break this morning to write a song.  Haven't done that in awhile.  Gotta get rehearals started back up again.

Meister had some peoples over last night for low-key rhumination, but I culdn't get away from this waterday prelim business.  Cnote came by with his ladyfriend to get her computer looked at.  I lent him the services of my HD enclosure, and everything seems to be in order.

Not much else to say.  Here, I'll post these pictures of my record player.  Pretty.

Phew.  Heard P.Min from CFC last night...forgot how funny he can be.  He's usually so...serious.  haha.

I had meant to go to the departmenal thing but I got home, started working on my prelim, and got so tired.  I can't go into it here, but it's been a long week and I was feeling kinda sick last night.  I'm better now but, suffice to say, even if I had come, I wouldn't have been able to do much of anything.

PT's hosting a thing this weekend that I have to miss b/c of my prelim...sad :(   But LZ is having a party which I shall make an appearance at.  This prelim is interfering with all kinds of stuff, both important and recreational.  Can't wait till it's over.  Assuming I pass.  haha. hah.

It looks like our band has another show! Febuary 4, Iron post!  I can't wait to push this on all my friends - lots of different walks of folk.  Should be good times if the show goes through.  Still not sure about the one on the 25th. And I know people keep asking - the new single is on it's way.  It's apparently proving difficult to mix or something.  But I'm as eager as you to hear the final thing.  It's been awhile since we've had a new tune up.

Hmm what else?  Pretty much done with the computer hour request...can now focus on my prelim, which is like 4 days away and I'm not done with yet :(

Been reading an interesting book called Mary, Called Magdalene...it's supposed to be loosely based on apocryphal text but it's highly fictionalized.  More than anything, it's apparently an accurate view of what a general 0th-century life was like for jews, gentiles, and romans.  Pretty neat.  I don't do a whole lot of reading, so I feel particularly scholarly :)

    11:00 AM (CST)

Almost done with this silly computer-hour proposal.  Haven't been able to work on my Prelim presentation for the past few days b/c of it.  Argh.  I've been kinda weak lately, sleeping a lot.  It's been an intense three days.

Not much going on - been working and sleeping, really.  Which is mostly why I haven't updated...nothing to report :)

I found out that Mindy has quite a talent.  Marion Barry is on drugs again.  The people in the OIL van accident are on the mend.

Johnnyork apparently has another show, not.  FEB 25.  More details on that as they become available.

I should write my record review one of these days.  When I first got the assignment, I had written down all my thoughts and was pretty much ready to write the review then.  But I've become lazy since then.  Also need to do the pics from last wee's BXT500.  Aiya...and LWs wedding pics    I'm a terrible friend/groomsman.  In my defence, she hasn't posted in like a year, so there.

Ahh...i adore Long Gone...I just bought their new one through Allofmp3 and it's downloading now.  Can't wait.  Import only. $0.72.  Good reviews.  Bitchin' technology :)
